Tricia O'Neill-Politte has a MA in English from Penn State. She taught English and Theatre at Northern High School in MD for over 30 years, where she was known as Ms. V. She finished her career as a Nationally Board Certified Teacher.
Her retirement includes a second marriage, writing, acting in community theatre and interpreting history for visitors at George Washington's Mount Vernon.
"The Magic Heart" was prompted by a friend's daughter not getting a part in a play.
As a high school teacher, she saw many students discouraged and saddened by disappointments and sorrows.
She wanted children and adults alike to know that the strength to overcome these hurts is inside each of us. She hopes "The Magic Heart" will help them through the heartaches.
One of the Supreme Court Justices read "The Magic Heart" and wrote a letter to Tricia saying, "It is a wonderful book and so inspiring. I love it."
Every book that is bought enables Tricia to give away books.
She has given away hundreds of books to hospice centers, public libraries, and school libraries. During Covid-19 she delivered 200 books to the Baltimore area Volunteers of America to give to children along with their food deliveries.
In 2019 she was pleased to co-author the first of The Bald Princess series with Rachel Rose Gray, "The Bald Princess Discovers Her Superpower." Rachel shaves her head and visits kids in hospitals. She had the idea of a bald princess, one who is not sick, just different. Now in 2020 the second book is out, "The Bald Princess Dazzles the Queen."
These books encourage children to be friends with others who are different from themselves and to see their potential to help make the world a better place.
When Rachel can visit children in hospitals she gives away these books. Even if Covid stops personal visits, we try to reach out to venues that will give books to kids who might need a virutal hug.
Thank you so much for helping us give books away, every time you buy a book.
