Alison Southgate, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, has lived in several other countries including England (MSc studies), France (internship at WHO in Geneva) & Japan (teaching English for over 3 years), and now resides (since 2004) in the Bahamas with her husband Chris and daughters Emily and Daniella. Of strong faith and a believer in perseverance, her first novel "The Mothers of Moses" was written throughout her mother's battle with cancer in 2012. "The characters of the book revealed their strength and I borrowed it from them. We all survived." This novel is a story of hope for everyone.
Alison worked for many years in the field of Environment Health Policy, with a focus on water and sanitation in rural communities. Changing paths a decade ago, Alison focussed on spiritual formation, helping people understand and embrace the gift of God’s love. These days, Alison volunteers at her daughters’ school fostering a recycling programme for plastics and cardboard, and has also organised the start of the school vegetable garden.
A real fan of challenge, Alison has climbed Mt. Fuji and para-glided off its foot hills, learned to sail in St. Maarten, snorkelled on the Great Barrier Reef, most recently completed a half-marathon and now sets her sights on learning to paint landscapes.
"Being a mother is the best part of my life. I get to be teacher, nurse, judge, chef, comforter, psychologist, athlete, guide, fairy princess and more. It is the greatest challenge and I love it."
