David St John

I have been in show-business since 1958, starting out as a ten year old rock n roll singer in my hometown of Southampton, followed by later years as lead singer with 60s and 70s pop groups.

My solo career kicked off in 1972, developing the comedy side as well as maintaining the musical aspect, which has kept me in work ever since! I have appeared in clubs, theatres, holiday centres, hotels all over the UK and overseas as well as cruise ship comedy guest spots. My writing, in recent years, has been mostly centred on my website, which I primarily set up to promote my main entertainment angle. I started to write up a basic biography on my early days in the music game, which proliferated into a mass of web-pages that cover the Southampton area 60s music scene. This new book will be published in 2020 so watch this space! Provisionally titled: 'Southern Roots'

In the meantime, I have also attracted press/media attention on another profile as a long-standing TV quiz show contestant. My first appearance was back in 1982, on 'Sale of the Century', which saw me win the game and kick-started the next few decades with more appearances and national recognition over 2013/2014. I was featured in a prime-time ITV documentary, alongside Bradley Walsh, as well as claiming the title of 'Britains Most Prolific TV Quiz Show Contestant' with a validation by the Guinness Book of World Records 2014.

This book is a personal inside look at the TV quiz show subject, with tips on how to apply and appear on an actual show. I have covered my 30 shows (plus repeat/follow-ups) as well as including relevant linked gags to provide a few laughs in between the memories of taking part. Many celebrities are featured throughout the book, as well as contributions from some of the people I have met across the years. You will also see a few photos that link in with some shows

There are several books in the TV quiz show category, but most tend to be collections of re-hashed trivia questions, so I thought it was time to get my own story into my first book published December 2014. My other book will follow - my previous one as mentioned above and more insights into the exciting years of Rock n Roll plus the Swinging Sixties! I hope you enjoy my first publication, and look forward to feedback. If you wish to look at my website, then go to:

My second book was published early 2020 - a biography of an amazing character who ran one of the top nightclub/casinos in Southampton from the 60s to 80s. Now living in retirement - an 86 year old millionaire ex playboy, gambler, club owner and lady's man! The Life of Kiwi Brian' is available as e-book or paperback.

Yours Quizzically
