Jeffrey W. Meiser

Dr. Meiser is an assistant professor in the political science department at the University of Portland. His research areas include strategy, American national security policy, rising power foreign policy, causes of civil wars, energy and environmental security, and qualitative methodology. Publications include, "American Exceptionalism," in the book US Foreign Policy edited by Michael Cox and Doug Stokes and "The Dilemma of an African Soldier," in War on the Rocks (http://warontherocks.com/2015/01/the-dilemma-of-an-african-soldier/).

Prior to joining UP, Dr. Meiser was an associate professor at the College of International Security Affairs at National Defense University in Washington, DC. He taught course in qualitative methodology, military strategy, and American military history. He was also a visiting lecturer and writing fellow at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Meiser obtained his Doctoral degree at the Department of Political Science, Johns Hopkins University, studying the causes of expansion and restraint in rising power foreign policy. He earned a Masters degree in Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.A. at Seattle University.
