Mark Fleisher

Mark Fleisher grew up in Brooklyn, NY; bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio University before serving in the Air Force with a year in Vietnam as a combat news reporter. He held a number of newspaper reporting and editing positions in upstate NY and also served temporary assignments at USA Today. Following his newspaper work, Mark worked in county government in New York as public information director and then veterans' counselor. His freelance work appeared in a number of publications including Life in the Finger lakes, the NY State Historical, Journal, and on the Black Sports Network. He moved to Albuquerque, NM in October 2013 and "Moments of Time" was his first book of poetry. He also contributed to the 2015 Fixed and Free Poetry Anthology, is a regular contributor to the Arkansas Free Press, and recites at open mic sessions in the Albuquerque area. He participated in the 2015 nowSeeHear project in which each of eight poets wrote poems to describe paintings by eight New Mexico artists. In February 2016, he and New Mexico poet Dante Berry collaborated on a chapbook titled "Obituaries of the Living." Mark's second full-length book of poetry "Intersections: Poems from the Crossroads" was published in June 2016 and his third full-length volume, "Reflections, Soundings from the Deep", was published in 2018. His latest poetry offering is "Incidental Moments, New and Selected Poems" published in 2022. His work continues to appear in both print and online anthologies in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., India, and elsewhere. Fleisher and his wife, Merle Pokempner, a retired art therapist, live in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
