Joe Bentivegna is an ophthalmologist living in Fairfield, Connecticut. He is happily married to his wife of 27 years, Louise. They have two adult daughters - Michelle and Elaine.
Dr. Bentivegna was born in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania in 1956. He attended St. Francis College and Penn State Medical - Hershey. He interned at Brown University in Internal Medicine and did his ophthalmology residency at New York Medical College. He spent a year as a volunteer physician in Haiti in 1983 and wrote a book on his experiences, The Neglected and Abused: A Physician's Year in Haiti. He is also the author of When to Refuse Treatment and The Lords of Greenwich. He ran for the US Senate in 1994 and Congress in 2014.
