Neil Davies (1969) was born in Oxford, England, and read Zoology at Oxford University before moving to University College London where he received a PhD in Genetics. As a field biologist, he has conducted research across the Caribbean, Latin America, and Pacific Islands. He is now Director of UC Berkeley's Gump South Pacific Research Station in Moorea, French Polynesia, where his research aims to incorporate biodiversity genomics into computational models of place. He is a Senior Fellow at the Berkeley Institute for Data Science and a Research Associate at the Biodiversity Institute Oxford.
