William Hobbs

William Ashanti Hobbs, Ph.D., is a novelist, essayist, and cultural commentator whose work weds scholarship to storytelling in pursuit of Black liberation. Author of North of the Grove, he writes with unflinching honesty about resilience, vulnerability, and the unfinished journeys of African American life. As Associate Professor of Languages & Literature at Virginia State University, he mentors new voices while advancing cultural scholarship and creative innovation. His mission is to write into silences, transform scars into testimony, and affirm that Black stories—raw, brilliant, and evolving—are essential to our collective survival.
