Author Nicholas R. M. Martin is the founder and director of the nonprofit Center for Accord, Inc. near Dallas, Texas. Born in London, England in 1951, Nick came to the U.S. in 1956. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 and a master's in Clinical Practices (psychology) from the University of Hartford in 1975. After many years as a juvenile court psychologist, mental health counselor, and staff development trainer, Nick came to focus increasingly on conflict prevention in the school environment and special education. He has been providing highly acclaimed and practically oriented seminars and workshops for over 35 years. Videos, published articles, and much more can be found at his website: www.4accord.com
As a writer, Nick's style and focus has been extremely varied, and he has always made it a priority to "move in the direction of need." He has written extensively in both fiction and nonfiction, including poetry, short stories, novels, and screenplays. His published professional works include:
An Operator's Manual for Successful Living (DeVorss, 1988; 2nd edition, The Center for Accord, 2008)
Strengthening Relationships When Our Children Have Special Needs (Future Horizons, 2005)
Fortaleciendo Relaciones Cuando Nuestros Niños Tienen Necesidades Especiales (Future Horizons, 2005)
A Guide to Collaboration for IEP Teams (Brookes Publishing, 2004)
Supporting the IEP Process, A Facilitator's Guide (Brookes Publishing, 2009)
Nick has been a "psychologist," in the broadest sense of the word, since his teen years, and the study of the human being has been a lifelong passion and pursuit. Despite the enormous variation in style and application, there are themes that run through all of his writings, all having to do with self-awareness, personal growth, and individual empowerment.
As time permits, Nick will be publishing more of his writings as a service to those who may find inspiration and encouragement on their own journeys. The first such publication was a new translation of Kahlil Gibran's Al-Mawakib (The Processions) in January of 2015. Forthcoming books will include:
The Arabic Plays of Kahlil Gibran
The Bow (a screenplay)
The Knight Light Series (short stories)
A Constant Sun (a novel)
The Physics of Human Experience (nonfiction)
The Second Ray (poetry)
