Zen master Bub-In, Peter Taylor, received Dharma transmission from his teacher, Venerable Hwasun Yangil Sunim, a Zen master in the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.
Peter was raised as a Quaker in the pine barrens of New Jersey. He attended fine hippy and Quaker schools, which culminated in his receiving an English degree from Haverford College. With an optimistic heart, and a dream of being a writer, he set off to explore the world and to find something to write about. After exploring Disney World, the American West, Mexico, and Central America, he landed in Canada. He married a Canadian woman and together they had a Canadian daughter.
In Toronto, Peter earned a social work degree from York University and began a career in child protection. Although the work did not quite crush his optimistic heart, he encountered enough stress and suffering to inspire him to find an end to suffering. To do that, he began a dedicated meditation practice. That practice brought him to the Awakened Meditation Centre and his esteemed, enlightened teacher. As he learned how to transform suffering through the practice of Zen meditation and mindfulness, he realized that he had something to write about.
After 15 years in Canada, Peter his wife, Lily, and daughter, Abby, returned to New Jersey. He meditates often, often with Quakers. He also cares for a 300-year-old family farm and wildlife preserve along the Delaware River. There, he practices a more tempered optimism, characteristic of Zen masters. He still dreams of being a writer and writes about awakening.
