Ron Nelson was born and raised in Michigan, graduated from the University of Michigan, moved to South Carolina soon afterward, lived in Charleston for almost twenty years, and later moved to the rural midlands near Columbia where he now lives with his wife. He had an early career in music, followed by a lifelong involvement in information technology that ended with his retirement in 2015. Most relevant here is that Ron is a prostate cancer survivor, treated in 2011 with proton therapy.
His writing and speaking focus not on the technical aspects of prostate cancer and proton therapy, but rather on the experience from the patient’s point of view. With an appropriate dose of light humor, he provides unfiltered detail in a candid conversational style that relieves the fear-of-the-unknown anxiety of newbies. As a fellow patient, Ron is uniquely able to describe with full disclosure what newbies most want to know, patient-to-patient, with an optimistic view of the future.
