Clive D. Field

Clive D. Field was born in Luton, Bedfordshire in 1950 and educated at Dunstable Grammar School and Wadham College, Oxford. His professional career was spent in academic librarianship, latterly as Director of Scholarship and Collections at The British Library. In parallel, he has pursued academic research and writing in the social history of British religion from the late seventeenth century to the present, with particular reference to statistical sources and the history of Methodism. In addition to the books featured on this webpage, he has also edited, and self-published, his mother's reminiscences, "Lutonian Odyssey", describing working-class life between the wars and during and immediately after the Second World War. He was appointed OBE in 2007 and is a Fellow of both the Royal Historical Society and the English Association.
