Karen lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, a place she credits with an infinite supply of inspiration and beauty. An art director by trade, Karen developed a love of writing when her first book (an attempt to entice her stubborn young daughter to read) found a publisher (Scholastic), a book award and an audience.
Karen's stories are engaging, humorous and quite often strike a chord that hits close to home with the reader. It's hard to discern where fact meets fiction in her writing, revealing an honesty and vulnerability that is very appealing. Whether it's middle grades fiction ("Foul Play," "He Shoots, He Scares," "One Ugly White Dog") or young adult novels ("The Opal"), her stories are original, thought-provoking and imaginative.
When not writing, Karen can be found running, cycling, kayaking or taking photographs. Karen is married and has two beautiful daughters.
