Aimee Backiel

Aimée Backiel was born in Massachusetts and moved to Maine during her childhood. After graduating from the University of Southern Maine in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, she continued working there in Academic Assessment. She moved to Belgium in 2011 to study Information Management at KU Leuven, earning her M.S. the following July. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Applied Economics at KU Leuven, with a focus in datamining. She teaches basic programming to university students which lead her to write her first book entitled Beginning Java Programming: The Object Oriented Approach with two colleagues in her research group.
