I was born in a hospital because I wanted to be close to my mother. I had forceps marks on my skull. I suppose I'll exit with them too. I have been teaching for over 46 years and still don't know what I don't know. I spent a year as a professor trying to teach people how to be good teachers. Then I figured out that I couldn't teach them to be me. I couldn't teach them that if you don't reach them you can't teach them. A former student, and I have more than a few, suggested that I should write a book about what it means to be a good teacher. So I did.
