Alec Fry

ALEC FRY has been keenly interested in photography from an early age; he first wrote for “Amateur Photographer” on specialised processing techniques while only 14, and his first freelance contribution to a national newspaper was accepted when he was fifteen. At the same age he won an adult photographic competition, the prize being free membership of his local Photographic Society. Struggling to keep up with the high standards of its professional leading members, his results steadily improved.

Following national service in an overseas RAF squadron, he entered the photographic book and magazine publishing world, newspaper photography, and running (for 25 years) his own photographic mail order business which was voted “Retailer of the Year” by readers of Amateur Photographer. Later he managed two government-funded business projects.

Having sold his business interests, he retired to live abroad for eight years - first in France and then in Spain - where he tired of doing very little and returned to live in a remote cottage in the Sussex Weald with his Norwegian wife and very close to his children and six grandchildren. Now he enjoys writing and gardening – but still his first love remains photography.
