William J. "Bill" Plott is a retired journalist and freelance writer. He has been a member of the Society for American Baseball Research since 1971 and a member of SABR's Negro Leagues Committee since its inception. He was also a member of the Negro Leagues Researchers and Authors Group that compiled Negro league statistics for the Hall of Fame. He has served on the selection committees for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame, and Alabama Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
A native of Opelika, AL, he lives in Montevallo, AL with his wife, Nancy Wilstach, and grandson, Atticus Plott.
Other books include "State Champs! A History of the Alabama High School State Basketball State Tournament" (Troy State University Press, 1978) and three books on Alabama high school football.
A craft beer enthusiast, Plott is the Alabama-Mississippi correspondent for "Southern Brew News". He has visited more than 200 breweries and sampled more than 7,000 beers. He is editor of "The Cannkin," a newsletter for Bama Cannas, the Alabama chapter of the Brewery Collectibles Club of America.
He is also a science fiction fan, holding membership in the Southern Fandom Confederation and the Southern Fandom Press Alliance, where he publishes a fanzine six times a year.
