As a reading teacher, I loved working with students and their parents and other care-givers. For over 20 years, I developed and facilitated evening events that would be enjoyable for the students and informative for the adults. The teachers and administrators with whom I've collaborated were enthusiastic and so dedicated that it made the events engaging for all. By hosting these events, I learned as much from the families as they learned from me. Parents would ask me a question regarding what they could do at home to assist their children and I would take that as a challenge to use all my resources and creativity to build a workshop or informal event to share the information.
I am a retired grandmother now but I remain dedicated to family literacy and building home-school communication through my workshops and events. I am also involved and keep apprised of educational trends as a Board member of the Niagara Frontier Reading Council, support the learning community as the Recording Secretary of the U.B. Women's Club, and enjoy my musical passion as director of Contemporary Voices at my church. And, of course, I am an avid reader- every day!
