Imagine a young Black child growing up in Eastern North Carolina during the 1940’s and 1950’s.

The Jim Crow era was at its peak throughout the country, but reared its ugly head most vehemently in the south.

This young person from the early ages of 5 or 6, decided that he would not be subjected to the attitudes of the times.

He had experienced the wisdom and love of a great spirited soul, who let him know that he was to rise above the chaos, he was a part of his surroundings but knew that the situation was just that; his surroundings, not his destiny.

This young person grew into adulthood at the time the civil rights movement was reaching its zenith in the United States.

He stood on the shoulders of the many generations who preceded him and decided to use the lessons passed down to take a different path.

While the mood at the time was to challenge the status quo, for the right of Black people to have access to public services and equal accommodations, this young person sought to push aside the barriers to economic achievement and blaze a path in the world of White Corporate America.

This book “How Did You Get Here?” One Black Man’s Journey through White Corporate America tells the story of this young man’s trials and triumphs.
