Hayes Farley

Hi there. My name is Hayes Farley.

(This is where I would shake your hand).

Okay, now that the awkward introduction is out of the way, I'm gonna go ahead and blow through all of my interests. Ready? I love golf, ping pong, video games, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Star Wars, Quentin Tarantino, Cormac McCarthy, Alt Nation, the Chive, breakfast, breakfast for dinner, pizza, Glenmorangie, my Sennheiser headphones, nice watches (although I can't afford any), and lamp. I love lamp.

Oh, and I also love to write.

How about some backstory? I was born in 1983, right here in Jacksonville, Florida. From kindergarten to eighth grade I was surrounded by nuns, then I ditched the rosary and the uniform and put on a pair of sneakers and a wrinkled t-shirt and went to a public high school. And that's where I changed from the most left-brained person you'd ever met into a right-brained dreamer. How? Well, I don't really know the science behind it, but I took six months of chemo for Hodgkin's disease during my senior year, and the drugs basically rewired my brain. Weird, right?

So as you can probably imagine, that mathematics degree that I always told people I'd be getting never happened. Far from it. I went to Furman University and got a BA in Philosophy. Yep ... Philosophy. My plan was to go to law school, and although I wasn't particularly gung ho about it, I figured I'd make a good lawyer. But that never happened, either.

I ended up winning a pretty big golf tournament in my hometown, turned professional, and tried to make a living playing golf. The travel was fun, and I made some good friends along the way, but in the end, I just wasn't good enough. So I became an instructor. After all, those that can't play, teach.

I spent the next two years working at a golf academy in Sarasota. I enjoyed it, but that part of Florida never felt like home to me, so I moved back to Jacksonville and took a job at a nice country club. Fast forward a few years and by some miracle I found someone who didn't object to marrying me. Dawn and I live near the beach with our beautiful baby girl, Mackenzie.

As for the writing, that started about a year after I got married, and began with nothing more than an insatiable urge to create something. Lucky for me, some of the ideas floating around in my head coalesced into a story worth sharing, and before long I had filled up a Word doc to the point that it could be called a book. I've been writing ever since.
