Tom Witosky

Tom Witosky, a Minnesota native, spent 40 years as newspaper reporter in the Midwest including 33 years as an award-winning investigative reporter in sports, politics and business for the Des Moines Register.

Witosky is considered to have been in the vanguard of investigative reporters in sports beginning in the 1980's and was a regular national award winner for his coverage of high school and college sports. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and also was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University during the 1991-92 academic year.

"Equal Before the Law: How Iowa Led Americans to Marriage Equality" is his first book and was co-authored by Marc Hansen, a former sports and general news columnist, for the Des Moines Register.

Witosky is now a freelance journalist and writer after retiring from the Register in 2012. He and his wife, Diane, live in Des Moines, IA. They have two children and three grandchildren.
