Roland Nyns

Sailor, indie author, and teacher. Originally from Belgium, Roland Nyns is a multifaceted figure whose achievements span the fields of computational linguistics, university teaching, educational technology, and literature.

Roland Nyns pursued studies in computational linguistics at world-renowned institutions, including the Universities of Munich and Freiburg in Germany, as well as Stanford University in the United States. He crowned his academic efforts with a PhD from the Free University of Brussels.

His professional career led him to teach at several prestigious universities, including the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Université de Mons (Belgium), and the Faculté Universitaire de Lille in France, where he served as Director of the Multimedia Center. In 1998, Roland Nyns founded a company specializing in e-learning, and he remained its CEO even after its acquisition by “Question Mark Computing Ltd.”

Beyond his academic and professional accomplishments, Roland Nyns is also a prolific writer. Passionate about the sea, he has been writing and publishing since 2008 sailing guides, travel narratives, books on navigation and the art of writing, as well as captivating novels.
