Responsive Classroom

The Responsive Classroom approach to teaching and discipline equips educators with research-based practices to create safe, engaging PreK–12 classrooms where students build the academic, social, and behavioral skills they need to be successful in, out of, and beyond school. Designed for everyday classroom realities, the approach helps teachers integrate effective routines, proactive discipline, and community-building practices into daily instruction.

Developed by the Center for Responsive Schools, the Responsive Classroom approach has supported hundreds of thousands of educators for more than forty years in schools across the United States and worldwide.

The work is grounded in the core belief that students thrive in caring school environments where essential social, behavioral, and well-being competencies—cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control—are intentionally taught.
