He received his BA Biblical Literature at Northeastern Bible College, Essex Fells, New Jersey and his Master of Arts in Ministry from Moody Graduate School Chicago, Illinois. His Masters project was Developing and Implementing a Philosophy of Missions Ministry in the Church. He enjoys being a consultant to leaders in churches who desire to move forward in global engagement. To that end he has written articles for mission agency publications: “Building the Church/Agency Relationship” Evangelical Missions Quarterly Oct 2009, Vol.45No.4, “Evaluating Your Missions Program” TWR Magazine Spring 1998, “Missions Decision Making in the Church” TWR Magazine Winter 1997, “Fulfilling the Missionary Mandate” Servant, (A Moody Graduate School Publication)May/June1996, “The Power of One” The Gospel Message, August 1987, “Cultural Entrapment” The Gospel Message, January 1987. Steve has served in various positions at Calvary Church, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, beginning first in 1976 as a youth pastor and then Minister of Christian Education. These experiences eventually led to the position of Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship 1990-1992. His responsibilities included missions leadership and mobilization, directing and training for summer missions programs as well as planning missions conferences to mobilize youth for world missions.
In 1992 Steve became Pastor of Care and Outreach Ministries at Immanuel Baptist Church in Holland, Michigan. He provided leadership for all local and world-wide outreach, congregational care and counseling, mobilization and long range planning. He provided leadership in the reorganization of the missions program and philosophy as well as development of lay leadership.
Steve returned to Calvary Church to be Global Ministries Pastor in 2005. Steve’s commitment to advancing world missions has taken him to over 40 countries. He has prepared and led short-term teams for ministries in Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Ireland and Ukraine as well as cross-cultural ministries in the U.S. Equipping and training national leaders has taken him to Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. He has provided pastoral care and ministry assessment of missionaries in religiously repressive countries as well as pastoral care for Calvary’s missionaries who are ministering in over 27 languages. He has served on the Board of Directors of The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) in Wheaton, Illinois for 16 years. Steve is most thankful when his wife, Lorraine, can accompany him in his travels. They are the parents of three grown children, Amy, Katie, and David and very happy to be grandparents of five. Steve welcomes this opportunity to be a catalytic resource for churches who want to move forward for an intentional strategic relationship to global ministry. This process will not only fortify the church to effectively mobilize and send but will also energize the church with new meaning and focus.
