Scott McClain currently lives in Northwest Arkansas and was raised in Heavener, Oklahoma, and spent his early life in the Coaldale community along the Oklahoma–Arkansas state line. Surrounded by the Ouachita and Winding Stair Mountains, historic railroad corridors, coal-mining communities, and generations of frontier history, he developed a lasting appreciation for the land and the resilient people who called it home.
McClain writes historical fiction, western mysteries, frontier adventures, and Christian children’s books. His historical novels are set throughout Arkansas, Indian Territory, Oklahoma, Kansas, and the greater American West. Drawing upon real towns, waterways, mountain country, railroads, and historical events, he creates suspenseful stories grounded in the hardships and moral challenges of life on the frontier.
His western and historical stories follow lawmen, preachers, settlers, miners, railroad workers, outlaws, widows, orphans, and ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances. Through their struggles, McClain explores justice and revenge, faith and doubt, mercy and sacrifice, loyalty and betrayal—and the difficult choices people face when truth is buried beneath fear, greed, violence, or ambition.
McClain also writes illustrated Christian books for children that introduce young readers to the people, lessons, and promises of the Bible. Through gentle storytelling and engaging characters, these books encourage children to grow in faith, courage, kindness, forgiveness, prayer, obedience, joy, and trust in God.
Whether writing about a dangerous frontier journey, a forgotten crime, a divided community, or a timeless lesson from Scripture, Scott McClain seeks to create meaningful stories built around strong characters, moral purpose, and enduring faith.”
