Edna Holmes

Edna Holmes grew up, a country girl, the third one of ten children. The rich and varied experiences of her childhood are often referenced in her writing. She married her "soldier home from the war" at an early age and five years later they both became Christians through a personal faith in Jesus Christ. Their focus changed immediately. Years later her husband became the pastor of a church in Grapevine, TX. He would serve faithfully in that pastorate for forty-two years. Within those decades the church grew to be strong in their missions outreach: contributing to the support of many missionary families serving all over the world.

Edna was privileged to travel with her husband to many countries as he visited the missionaries, encouraging them in their work. She learned from experience that Christian women all over the world, in all cultures, have the same basic needs and desires of the heart. Edna's priority in the ministry was to teach women, at every opportunity, the Word of God and encourage them to make it the guide of their lives. Treasures to Keep was born when the church women encouraged her to write a daily devotional book for them. She produced it in monthly segments, which later were combined and printed into a complete one-year devotional book. In that form, it began to be circulated outside the church to other women. Many lives have been affected by its plain, easy to understand, teaching. Edna would later say, “It was the hardest work I ever did in my life, but also the most rewarding.”
