Our nation is blessed with land-grant universities - at least one in every state. Under their umbrellas resides a variety of educational programs such as 4-H and food production. It is my privilege to serve as an educator in the Cooperative Extension system of one of those universities. I teach Family and Consumer Sciences - personal money management, parenting, nutrition and wellness. In other words, knowledge no one can live without.

My weekly life skills classroom is typically filled with young single mothers - too often they are hurting women who have escaped abusive relationships or are recovering from drug addictions. Most of them had no role model of love and support when they were girls. As their teacher, I help them see how special they are, I help them find hope in their futures, and I help them face their monsters. And they have helped me face mine.
