Bruce Colbert

Bruce Colbert is an actor, filmmaker and author. A graduate of the University of Tennessee in journalism, he studied painting, sculpture and film at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and drama at the T. Schreiber Studio in NYC. His plays have been performed Off-Broadway and in Chicago and Toronto. His newest play Fitzgerald on the notorious Scott and Zelda is currently in production. He was also writer for the 2025 Documentary Film, A Noble Experiment. Colbert has appeared on the BBC, ABC, NPR, Discovery TV Channels and in film roles for HBO and Fox Searchlight.

His books include a story collection, A Tree on the Rift, and seven novels: Lombard Street, Words of our Enemies, Mobile was a Catholic Town, Paint Me Midnight Blue, Scratch, This Wicked Generation and The Hutchisons. In addition to his fiction are four poetry collections. His writing has been nominated for three Pushcart Prizes, a Firecracker Poetry Award and as a finalist for the Wisdom/Faulkner Best Novel. A former Navy Seabee and ocean sailor, he continues his love of the sea in coastal Alabama.
