Chris Kohler, Ph.D., is a Professor emeritus of Fisheries and Aquatic Ecology at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He has published extensively in the scientific literature (160+ articles), including co-editing a popular college textbook--Inland Fisheries Management in North America, 1st and 2nd editions. Much of his research and development work thrust him amid exotic locales throughout the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. His new novel, Whistling Cay, takes place in the US and British Virgin Islands. Chris taught three courses for the School for Field Studies that involved cruising these islands, as well as directed two Earthwatch programs there. Cracked Island, his first novel, also draws upon a vast array of personal experiences, those being in Haiti.
Chris' goal is to write multicultural suspenses that capture the characteristics of islanders of all races, religions, and genders inhabiting these lush Caribbean settings steeped in historical traditions. Chris is not an historian or anthropologist, and thus does not claim to have written novels describing all events, places, or cultural underpinnings with absolute accuracy. His intention is to capture the pride, color, and even mysticism that are the fabric of these islands and their inhabitants.
Chris lives in Fernandina Beach, Florida, with his lovely wife-for-life, Charlee Sue, and with their two prescious, furry kitcats.
