Ahmed Mousa

Ahmed Mousa is a well-established principal engineer, energy control center operator, manager, senior electrical engineer, project manager, project engineer and trainer, with over a decade of various electric utility experience. Ahmed is also an Adjunct Professor teaching ECE698 Advanced topics: Generation and Distribution System at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Ahmed spent over seven years planning for the electric sustainability and load relief for New York City: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Stated Island and Westchester for the next 10/20/30 years.

While working for Consolidated Edison, Ahmed conducted an electric vehicle grid adoption study with the Mayor’s Office and McKinsey, studying short and long-term impact of several electric vehicle forecasts on the electric grid and recommended appropriate load relief measures.

Ahmed is currently planning for a for a smart and clean New Jersey electric system where distributed generations (DG), i.e. solar, electric vehicles, battery storage, fuel cell, etc. are the norm. Ahmed is also a key contributor to the PSE&G Utility 2.0 initiatives preparing the electric grid for the future system that is highly driven by the customer, unlike the typical electric grid.

Currently, Ahmed is a Principal Engineer at PSE&G NJ in the Electric Delivery Planning section, where he is responsible for managing power system generation, transmission and distribution simulation studies, developing the short/ long range substation forecasts, analysis and load relief, performing short circuit studies, developing transmission and distribution station and feeder designs, reviewing large customer demand proposals. Ahmed is also responsible for all solar, battery storage, fuel cell interconnections and technical evaluations and support for the post-Sandy Energy Strong team.

Prior to joining PSE&G, Ahmed was an Energy Control Center District Operator at the Consolidated Edison’s Energy Control Center, where he was responsible for reviewing and processing all generation, transmission, sub-transmission and distribution scheduled and forced outages for the entire Consolidated Edison System and interconnected facilities from other utilities as well.

So far, Ahmed has worked for four industry leaders: PEPCO, First Energy (Jersey Central Power & Light), Consolidated Edison and PSE&G; Ahmed has over ten years of experience in transmission, sub-transmission, substations and distribution systems, where he was the Area Station Planning manager, responsible for the short/long term (1/5/10/20/30 years) and emergency planning for all the area substation, transmission/sub transmission feeders & the 4 kV system at Consolidated Edison. Ahmed was assigned as the subject matter expert for sub-transmission, area substation (345/13 kV, 138/13, 27, 33 kV & 69/13 kV) and the 4 kV system during emergency and high load conditions. Ahmed was the distribution engineering situation room manager that gets activated during weather events and other emergencies; Ahmed was the active manager during hurricane sandy, 8,500 union lockout and the Metro North Outage.

Ahmed was the project manager for the Energy Control Center Energy Management System (SCADA) upgrade and the project manager and project engineer for President Obama’s Department Of Energy’s stimulus grant for the Consolidated Edison’s 4 kV system.

Ahmed developed the criteria for:

• Including distributed generation in substations and sub-transmission feeders’ load relief plans.

• Utilizing substation voltage reduction as a load relief for the sub-transmission feeders and switching transformers.

• Developing the criteria for relying on the NYISO demand response to defer costly load relief.

Ahmed is a member of the PSE&G Diversity & Inclusion committee, Social Brigade group and The Young Professionals at PSE&G employee resource group. Ahmed was a member of Consolidated Edison Corporate Long Range Planning committee, Electric Vehicle committee, Conservation Voltage Optimization committee and the Edison Engineering Society committees. I was the youngest engineer to be promoted to senior engineer and the youngest manager as well.

Below are the awards I have received so far:

• 2013 Excellence in Design and Genius Engineer (EDGE) Award Nominee for “Developed Load Calculation Tools for System and Transmission Operations”

• 2012 “Sustain Energy Reliability” Team Award

• 2009 3rd Quarter Distribution Engineering ALVA Award for 21st Century Leader

Ahmed has been the section trainer for eight years providing training in:PSS/E, relief planning, DG's grid adoption , system operation outage analysis, equipment/feeder transformer ratings, voltage studies, basic/advanced power load flow, load transfers, phase angle studies, capacitor impact, smart grid, PI, voltage reduction/Optimization.

Ahmed received his Bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Stony Brook University and Masters in electrical engineering from Manhattan College. Ahmed completed the Siemens PTI Transmission and Distribution courses, as well as several other technical, leadership and supervisory courses at Con Edison.

Ahmed conducted several technically speaking seminars and several leadership presentations that is available to all company employees. Throughout his career, Ahmed supervised and mentored several employees, management and union, entry and senior level. Ahmed was also the mentor of many new employees.

Over the course of Ahmed’s career, he led multiple interviews for several entry level and senior level positions. Ahmed prepared the job description/requirements for several jobs as well.
