Carrie Enge grew up in Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit. In 1973, when a friend got her a job in a salmon cannery, she headed to the small, isolated fishing community of Petersburg, Alaska and began her forty-year career as an English teacher and professor.
In 2012 she received her MFA from University of Alaska's limited residency program where her mentors included Jo-Ann Mapson (Owen's Daughter, The Owl and the Moon Café), Josip Novakovich (Infidelities: Stories of War and Lust, Fiction Writer's Workshop), and John Keeble (Yellowfish, Out of the Channel: The EXXON Valdez Oil Spill in Prince Williams Sound).
Enge's first novel, Crab Bait, explores Alaska's unique setting, culture and economy as a cozy mystery unfolds.
Besides teaching and writing, Carrie Enge has commercial fished, squeezed herring, packed salmon, coached a state championship debate team, pulled a lot of weeds, and raised two lovely daughters.
