Grace Crunican

As general manager of Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART, Grace Crunican oversees more than 3,500 employees and $30 billion of transportation infrastructure. But that is only the culmination of a pioneering transportation career. She's also helmed the Oregon and Seattle Departments of Transportation and has held numerous federal, state, and local government positions including deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration. In addition to her extensive public service, she is also a past president of WTS International and has served on many boards of directors including the Mineta Transportation Institute and Railvolution, on which she serves today. She is also the mother of two children and freely admits that parenting is both the "toughest and most rewarding job" she's ever had. Photo by John Livzey.

THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKING . . . AND TALKING

Grace Crunican and Liz Levin have taken their book on the road for extraordinary programs in Boston and Los Angeles. Speaking to packed audiences at WTS International chapters--an organization for the advancement of women in transportation--Crunican and Levin brought several women from the book including former Houston Metro CEO Shirley DeLibero, former Massport and MassPike board member and WalkBoston founder Ann Hershfang, former Tobin Bridge director and HNTB associate vice president Mary Jane O'Meara, CDM Smith vice president Dana C. Hook, and former Federal Aviation Administration Airports Division manager LaVerne Francis Reid. After a presentation with Q&A in each city, the programs broke into intimate roundtables with all of the women. It was a fantastic opportunity for attendees to spend quality time with each of the women. The events were so well-received that WTS International profiled them on their website in the article "Transportation Leaders Make Book on Women's Wisdom" at http://bit.ly/1Rvui6K. But stay tuned. More cities are on the agenda ...
