Xinghua Li is Assistant Professor of Media Studies at Babson College, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, she studies the global spread of consumer capitalism through the perspectives of psychoanalysis, ecocriticism, and critical media theory. Dr. Li has published in journals such as Media, Culture and Society, Environmental Communication: A Journal of Nature and Culture, and the anthology Reading Brokeback Mountain. For three years she authored the "Looking Abroad" Column for The 21st Century, an English-language weekly in Beijing affiliated with the China Daily News Group.
At Babson College, Dr. Li teaches courses including Media Studies, Media Culture and the Environment, and the Arts and Humanities Foundation. Her cross-border experience of living in the world's two largest consumer cultures (China and the US) serves as consistent inspiration for her to explore the relationship between culture, mind, and environment.
