Allan Curtis

Allan Curtis is the co-owner and Designer/Builder at Legendary Escapes. He didn't start out in love with the pool industry, though that is exactly where he finds himself now. A 28-year pool industry veteran, Al received the Master of Design Award in 2013 from Pool and Spa News. Starting with the basics of swimming pool design he has pushed the limits of both himself and the industry, leading innovation and pioneering the Hybrid Swimming Pool Build process. Al and team have expanded into a boutique building company, specializing in artistic and themed backyard escapes. A philosophy guy at heart, the connection with the homeowners is the most important aspect of one of Al's pools, and his portfolio speaks for itself.

Al maintains a high industry profile as a public speaker and networker, regularly presenting at the International Pool Show and other industry events. A published author, Al is also a regular contributor to AQUA Magazine and a frequent speaker and consultant on organic marketing for business owners. His online alter-ego Ask the Pool Guy has garnered him industry-wide recognition, and he has a solid social media base of 50K Twitter followers and a YouTube channel with 750+ videos. Al earned a BA in physics, a background which helps inform his pool building technique. He lives in a 100+ year old farm house, enjoys antiquing to find interesting elements to his swimming pool themes, and enjoys fishing and spending time with his family, especially his daughters who have become an integral part of his swimming pool construction team.
