Lawrence Abrams

Lawrence Abrams is a retired high school principal in New York City where he worked for several decades to reform public education and became an advocate for the small school movement.. Suddenly he was thrust, with little preparation into America's end-of-life system. Never in his wildest dreams did he think he would author a book, but the writing came pouring out of him as a method to understand and control the hard decisions he and his daughter would have to make to keep their love one safe from harm. His wife Sandy, was the principal of James Madison High School in Brooklyn. For move information go to the author's website The Grievance: A Real Life-and-Death Story.

In his professional career as an educator he was known for his interdisciplinary approach to the humanities, often merging social studies and English. He trained his students and teachers in “writing-as-process” to promote high standards of literacy. His daughter Meredith is currently Director of Events at a large multinational technology corporation. The book is dedicated to her two children, Charlie and Dexter, who in later life will need to understand their grandmother’s legacy and pass that legacy of how to live life onto their own children. As in all families, a strong narrative is what bonds generations together in times of crisis and gives them the strength to both persevere and eventually overcome the hardships that life brings. As a result of his experience, Mr. Abrams has become a vocal advocate to change America's end-of-life system.
