Jim May

Jim graduated from Kansas University in Political Science and Philosophy in 1963. During summer breaks, he led mountain climbs in Rocky Mountain National Park, and performed stand up comedy. For the next five years he was involved in campus ministry to college students in California and England. For the next twenty four years he pastored four churches, coached high school track, hosted call-in radio, pioneered men’s groups, worked with and spoke for Promise Keepers, and mentored seminary students.

In 1991 Jim burned out on running churches, because he was tired of being expected to fix people, tired of judgementalism, and tired of restrictive “doctrine in a box.” He resigned his church, and began a writing career, and has written eight books. He became a presenter and research writer for Rachel’s Challenge telling the story of Rachel Scott, the first student killed in the Columbine Tragedy. He enjoyed the challenge of presenting truth without religious language in public schools around the country. To date, many Rachel's Challenge presenters have spoken to over 22 million students promoting a chain reaction of kindness and compassion.

In addition he facilitates men's groups, speaks in conferences, and mentors leaders. His favorite activity is a one on one transparent conversation. He loves being being real with real people.

He has been married to his wife, Maureen for forty-nine years and they live in Lakewood, CO. They have three daughters Michelle (CPA in Phoenix), Marleen (Patient care in a Cancer Center in Chico, CA) and Melody (writer in New Zealand). They have three grandchildren, J. P., Melina, and Amelia.

Jim’s heart and message is setting people free from legalistic religion and connecting them with the grace of God.
