Douglas M. Brown

Douglas Brown shares approaches to improve the results that executives and owners are able to get from their organizations. (Sometimes he just publishes books for others on topics he is interested in, such as travel, history, and dogs.) Once the business is running more effectively, that improves its outcomes, and that in turn increases its value to a potential buyer. Douglas is also a certified business appraiser, business broker, and commercial real estate agent (licensed in Virginia).

Improving performance doesn't require expensive "transformation" programs; they often fail altogether, and for many organizations they make things worse (when they don't fail altogether). He has found that most organizations must (and can) improve themselves using the people, tools and money they already have. They prove the value of the ideas one at a time, so that the staff can absorb them without too much confusion, and can gain confidence in that value so they are ready yo take on more and more increments over time.

These don't have to be trivial solutions. Some of his work has resulted in multi-million-dollar savings with not much more than a simple spreadsheet and a clear understanding of what the real problem was.

He has lived in several countries around the world, and learned to speak Spanish and German. He and his wife Lynn live in Williamsburg, Virginia, where they enjoy good cuisine, the resources of the Historic Triangle, traveling, dogs, and writing more books.
