Sharon Gunason Pottinger

More than a decade ago, I met a Scottish farmer and married and came to his part of the world, the far north of Scotland. When I left behind my career as a technical writer and part time college instructor, I took up blogging and journalism to explain to myself and to others what life up here is like. And then I began writing fiction and poetry. For me, writing fiction meant re-learning the language from the inside out.

I've had short pieces published online and in print in Northwords Now, New Writing Scotland, Tentacular and The Purple Hermit and creative opportunities and workshops locally (Women's Playwright Circle at Lyth Arts Centre) and at Moniack Mhor. I've taken part in two artist-writer collaborations and my work is on permanent display in our local hospital. A short screenplay, Wool and Widows, produced by BigBox productions as part of their 'Shortcuts to the North' series.

I'm a member of Caithness Writers and have contributed to their biannual anthologies. I've been able to use my teaching experience as well in offering writing workshops throughout the county.
