Jon Westlund (1960-present) wants to see the success that he has experienced with young people in the public schools on the one hand, using one source of insights; and in private schools, using another source of insights, grow into a wider movement providing better mental guidance for all adults. The aim is for better mental health for everyone - not just for those with greater mental struggles.
Mental Health for Everyone is his first published book, but he plans to write a series of books with the theme of health for everyone such as Physical Health for Everyone, Social Health for Everyone, and Financial Health for Everyone. This book represents starting with improving decision making, so that all the other types of health will make more sense.
What qualifies him for this series on health for everyone is his reliance upon the best experts, his own post graduate level expertise, and his own deeply personal experiences in dealing with his own and other people's mental health. In the case of mental health, he does not rely upon just one field - like psychology. He relies also upon experts in teaching, coaching, schooling, and educating, because he starts where the first professional mental health training starts rather than in starting with a professional counseling session. He believes you must begin where everyone's mental health begins its first professional training and it is there you must correct the mental health crisis in the United States and in other parts of the world.
This first book brings together a dream team of eight experts in the areas of teaching, coaching, schooling, and educating to provide expert guidance to the minds of everyone. Imagine if you could create a fantasy team of experts to help you make choices in life. The goal is for this book to provide this team's greatness not only for experts, but also for non-experts. But this book does not stop at the level of the past success of eight experts, it goes beyond them to a higher level.
To do that improvement, you have to have further expertise. This is brought in from two primary sources both of which function separately as authoritative to their respective admirers. Their insights in the end converge to support one another, but either has authority to stand on its own.
The first is the success of artificial intelligence and using the basic principles of its success to improve human and natural intelligence whether emotional or logical. Without the author's exposure to artificial intelligence and computers both educationally and professionally, this would not have been possible. The massive success of computers, the internet, and machines; using artificial intelligence, is too great to be ignored. It's failures are not due to artificial intelligence, but due to the poor realization of that intelligence. The smartest do better.
The second relates to a super majority of Americans and to the minority of Americans, who should listen in on an open conversation among the majority before reaching an opinion. The source is the supernatural intelligence of the Bible in its original languages. Here is where the author's skills in language arts and in the original languages of Scripture are critical to any success.
English Bible translations have served well in many instances; but less well translation, transference, training, and teaching can also hold people back from seeing the total of higher intelligence in the Bible. The author is not afraid to use the best scholarship to show what the best can see that lesser expertise cannot, but this is done with deep respect for what even children know - the greatest of the non-experts. Every adult can benefit emotionally and intellectually from high school (and a bit younger) to the highest Ph.D., if they can see with the eyes of a child once again. To everyone with sanity and intelligence, this effort is dedicated.
