Shane Schilperoort

Shane Schilperoort (1972-Present) was born in Santa Cruz, California, and he grew up in the Foothills of Sonora, CA, and the Farming Valleys of Modesto, CA. At a very young age, Shane competed in writing and poetry competitions, and he showed a deep love for the written word. After graduating from Grace M. Davis High School, he served his Country in the United States Navy (USN) during both Desert Storm and Desert Shield. After 4-years in the USN, Shane returned to Modesto and attended College at Modesto Junior College (MJC). While at MJC, he applied for the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and he was accepted into the CHP Academy in 1996. After 17-years of dedicated and honorable service, Shane was involved in a shooting which ended his career as a Law Enforcement Officer. It was shortly thereafter that he rediscovered his passion for writing and poetry. Among his many favorites are Walt Whitman, Edgar Allan Poe, and Robert Burns. Shane has had a published poem in "Beyond the Sea-Findings," titled "Trout On The Fly," and his first published book of poetry titled "Off The Edge Of The Asphalt." Shane prefers a no-nonsense style of writing that is easily read. He is an avid football and golf fan, and he especially loves to Fly Fish in the Sierra Mountains of California.
