Janet Maher, Professor Emeritus of Art, Loyola Unversity Maryland, works in and has taught courses in many disciplines. She formerly directed the Studio Arts program. Her prints, drawings, artist books, collages, assemblages, digital images, mixed media works and works in clay are in many private and public collections (www.janetmaher.com). Her deep research into Irish history, the quest to find the roots of the immigrant lines in her own family and links from their communities back to their Irish homeland led her to the authorship of two books: From the Old Sod to the Naugatuck Valley: Early Irish Catholics in New Haven County Connecticut (2012, Apprentice House, Baltimore, MD) and Waterbury Irish: From the Emerald Isle to the Brass City (2015, History Press, with assistance from John Wiehn and others). From the Old Sod to the Naugatuck Vallery was awarded the Connecticut Society of Genealogists Prize for Best Resource Publication in 2016. As a tie-in to her books, see Janet Maher's blog, MaherMatters.com.
