Who am I? In a sentence, a guy who has been in business all his life and in politics for a good part of it who decided a few years ago he could perhaps write. Write what? Stories. Stories taking bits and pieces from my life, my experiences, the people I have known, with enough suspense and conflict to make the stories interesting enough for people to turn the page. I grew up in Kansas of a Canadian mother and an American father. Went back and forth in my youth with my sister and two brothers between Kansas and Quebec, which made us very much a mix of two very different cultures. Influenced me into a becoming a lifelong student of different walks of life. Ended up graduating in History from the University of Kansas after I fainted from the sight of blood in a zoology class in pre-med. A doctor I was not to be. Ended up in business as there was not much future for me in history. Got an MBA from Laval University in Quebec after I fell for a girl there one summer and rationalized the whole thing. Started off out of college as a commodity trader and buyer for a feed company, worked in mergers and acquisitions for a large chemical firm after the MBA and ran business development for another one later on. Started three different consulting firms in the course of thirty years, two in business strategy consulting, the other in government relations (lobbying), worked in Africa and Asia for close to a decade, and during two periods twenty years apart, was a chief of staff running the political offices of two different Canadian government cabinet ministers. Have spent most of the past fourteen years advising emerging Canadian software and technology companies on building businesses in the United States and over the past few years, writing some stories. Two of them - The Bohemian Connection, a thriller with a historical bent and The Lady from Toledo, a story of an American in Africa and her odyssey to recover her family - are available on Amazon. There are two others coming.
