Dr. Jeff Faulkner Hilson

I am a happily compulsive writer of everything from novels, journals, short stories, notes and various other styles in between. I don't believe in writer's block because writing is thinking. I'm a historian by trade. I taught all my adult life in public schools and have a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in my subject matter. I write about controversial issues, the coming together of immutable intellectual forces, and how the friction affects the people involved.

I write because the process stops the frantic world and allows me time to think. I just love the whole procedure of transgressing the mundane world into a place where ideas reign.

I don't know how a writer could write a book with a reading audience in mind or write only for what he thinks will sell at a particular time. I just can't do that. I first start with a topic that interests me, something that I want to know more about and sustains my interest. I research the topic, see what others have written about it, think hard about the implications of the various parts, then write. So, when I have finished a book, I have learned all that I possibly can about the topic. This way there is no writer's block, a clear beginning and clear end. The book is complete and I am finished to go on to another interesting topic.
