Andy Lewis

Andy Lewis is a Religious Education teacher, Deputy Headteacher, education writer and speaker who works at St Bonaventure’s Catholic School in East London. He has spent his career in Catholic comprehensive education, working across subject leadership, pastoral leadership and whole-school development.

His books include '100 Ideas for Secondary Teachers: Outstanding RE Lessons' and 'Succeeding as an RE Teacher: The Ultimate Guide to Teaching Secondary RE'. He has also written and co-written a wide range of classroom resources, including Oxford University Press’s GCSE Religious Studies materials for Edexcel, Collins’ Knowing Religion books and the 'Knowledge Quiz: Religious Studies – Catholic Christianity and Judaism.'

Andy is Series Editor of Oxford University Press’s Source to Summit, a three-year Key Stage 3 course developed to support the Catholic Religious Education Directory (RED). Led by a team of practising teachers, the series combines theological rigour with a carefully sequenced and accessible classroom curriculum; the series received full endorsement from the Catholic Education Service.

Alongside teaching and school leadership, Andy has contributed to Religious Education nationally through organisations including Culham St Gabriel’s, Teach First, the Catholic Education Service and ATCRE. He has led and organised teacher networks and conferences, including the London RE Hub, and has spoken at ResearchED and other national education events as well as worked closely with the High Performance Foundation's Game Plan resources.

His writing on RE, curriculum, teaching and Catholic education has appeared in publications including Teach Secondary, the Catholic Herald, Schools Week, OUP’s Education Blog, RE:Online and Networking CET. He was shortlisted for TES Teacher Blogger of the Year and now writes The Blog on a Hill, exploring education, leadership and formation.
