I have 3 children, 2 adults and 1 to become one next week, all of them flourishing. One grandson age 11. I taught preschool for 30 years in San Francisco and can tell you with some authority that age 4 is the peak of human intelligence. Once they start school, they're told how stupid they are on a daily basis and eventually they believe it. As far as schools go, results reflect intentions. I also spent 15 years organizing parents in the Oakland Public Schools, attempting to foster human connections between them, knitting the fabric of the new society. Meanwhile, I've written 5 novels, a memoir, a screenplay, and many stories, most of them in prepublished form, comprising my work for the next 10 years or so, polishing and getting them published the way I did White Knight. My very first novel won the Walter Van Tilburg Clark Prize.
