Mikhail E Elyashberg

Professor Mikhail E. Elyashberg graduated from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Tomsk, Russia. He obtained a Ph.D. (in Phys.-Math.) from the Moscow Pedagogical University and a degree of Dr. Chem. Sci. (Dr. habil.) from the Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry at the Russian Academy of Sciences (GEOKHI RAS). He headed the Laboratory of Molecular Spectroscopy (NMR, GS-HRMS, GC-FTIR, Raman, UV,) at the All-Russian Institute for Organic Synthesis, Moscow (1981-2001). Since 1995 he has been the leading researcher at GEOKHI RAS and since 2001 has been a senior scientist at Advanced Chemistry Development Ltd. (ACD) in Moscow. He belongs to one of four research groups who simultaneously started pioneering researches in CASE development in the end of 60s. He developed the theory of spectral structural-group analysis based on mathematical logic and leaded the elaboration of three generations of expert system RASTR (STREC) intended for CASE. The BRUKER commercial expert system X-PERT was developed under his leadership, and he is one of main authors of expert system ACD/Structure Elucidator. He contributes in vibrational and NMR spectrum calculations, mathematical stereochemistry, molecular design of high-energy hydrocarbons, investigation of complex molecular systems with hydrogen bonds, standardless quantitative spectral analysis. He is author (co-author) of more than 100 peer reviewed papers as well as 5 books devoted to CASE problem. He is Laureate of State Prize of Russian Federation (highest scientific award in Russia) for his researches in the CASE area.
