Susan Owens

Susan Owens is a writer, art historian and former Curator of Paintings at the V&A. Her latest book is Constable's Year: An Artist in Changing Seasons (Thames & Hudson, 2026), a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week. Her previous book was The Story of Drawing: An Alternative History of Art (Yale University Press, 2024), which won the Apollo Book of the Year Award. Her other books include Imagining England’s Past (Thames & Hudson, 2023); Spirit of Place: Artists, Writers and the British Landscape (Thames & Hudson, 2020), a Times / Sunday Times art book of the year; Christina Rossetti: Poetry in Art (Yale University Press, 2018, co-edited with Nicholas Tromans); and The Ghost: A Cultural History (Tate Publishing, 2017).
