Timothy E. Eastman

Dr. Eastman has carried out research and consulting in space physics, space science data systems, space weather, plasma applications, public outreach and education since the 1970's.

By working with NASA spacecraft observations of space plasmas, in 1975, he discovered the

low-latitude boundary layer of Earth’s magnetosphere and has since published over 100 research papers in space physics and related fields. While serving as a program officer at NASA ('85-'88) and NSF ('91-'94), he was co-coordinator for major international and interagency projects, including the International Solar Terrestrial Physics program, the Interagency Space Weather Program, and NSF's Basic Plasma Science and Engineering program. Beginning in the mid-1990's, he created and has continued to maintain a major Web site for plasma science and applications (plasmas.org). He has carried out research and publications in philosophy, including over 30 philosophical papers and reviews, the editing of four special scholarly journal issues on process thought and natural science, and co-editorship of Physics and Whitehead (SUNY, 2004) and Physics and Speculative Philosophy (De Gruyter, 2016). For this and related scholarly publications and leadership, he was awarded the Creative Advance Award in 2009 by The International Process Network.
