Owen M. Griffith is a grateful mentor, teacher, guitar instructor, writer, educational consultant, blogger, and musician, residing with his wife and son in North Georgia. Owen studied psychology and biology in college, but was drawn to education, seeing the power education has to transform our youth and in turn, shape our future. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.
Being an educator has far surpassed any of Owen's expectations, as he has learned from his students and has grown in unforeseen ways, like developing a gratitude curriculum with the help of his students and colleagues.
Writing a blog and publishing articles on Huffington Post and Edutopia has given him a chance to connect with educators around the world and now this book, Gratitude: A Way of Teaching, will further that endeavor.
In August 2015, Owen presented his experience with gratitude in education at the Gratitude Conference at Greater Good Science Center, U.C. Berkeley, in an effort to develop and disseminate new gratitude curriculum.
Owen has designed and led professional developments for educators pertaining to gratitude and growth mindset, as well as other social-emotional learning tools, to improve student achievement and elevate classroom culture.
In addition, Owen had the pleasure of creating and implementing a music program for "At-Risk" youth with the Police Athletic League of Alpharetta, GA, that is still growing after 10 years of operation. Now, former students are volunteering to help younger students enjoy the gifts of learning and playing music.
Finally, outside of work, Owen thrives on reading, playing guitar and doing yoga, while getting some of his best ideas when he is mountain bicycling or playing with his 8 year-old son.
