Matt Buckett

I make art and I write stories... occasionally I make drums.

Growing up on a farm gave me the freedom to explore the world around me at will. This sense of freedom as a child has given me a ferocious imagination and a desire to fuse my creativity with a passion for storytelling. I studied fine art at art college and have been producing works of art for galleries and private collectors for more than thirty years. Expanding my creative output I began writing about fifteen years ago, working on a number of different story concepts across different genres.

In December 2015 I published my first book, The Weapon; a graphic novel that combines my debut story with my own illustrations in Indian ink. The process was liberating and allowed me to combine the two elements of my artistic expression; story telling and illustration.

In 2023 I co-founded a new publishing imprint called 'River Styx Project' with fellow author Ian P Marshall. We are releasing a series of new books under this publishing label, with the first being published in October 2023; Knight Eternal, Battleborn. This is the first book in a trilogy of fantasy adventure stories that follows an immortal warrior from the crusades whose destiny lies in the present. I produced more than 26 paintings for Knight Eternal and the books are available in both paperback and special edition hardback.

Anyone interested in following this series should sign up to the newsletter on the 'River Styx Project' website.

I continue to produce works of art and illustrations from my home on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon, where I gain valuable inspiration from the dramatic landscape around me. Developing my skills as a writer and illustrator I have found that by consuming vast quantities of coffee and working through the night as often as possible helps with productivity. In fact some of my best work has been created at three in the morning. Also some of my worst decisions have been made just after three in the morning, so maybe editing the next morning is where the real work begins...

Thanks for reading.
